The fiery stone of passion. Emitting crimson and vermillion light, Garnet embodies passion and creativity. Coveted for millennia, the gems' blood red tones have evoked fire in all its manifestations. A semi-precious member of the silicate mineral family, Garnet is formed when a rock with high aluminium content is subjected to intense heat and pressure. Stones heroing deep crimson-red hues are known as Pyrope Garnet, originating in India. Whilst the softer rose-red and violet-red hues are from the Rhodelite Garnet, which originates in Africa. Garnet is the birthstone of January and ranks 6.5/7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
