Empowering Stories: Georgina Egan - Mother, Photographer, Creative Visionary

Welcome to Kerry Rocks’ Empowering Stories, where we share conversations with the powerful women who inspire us to live life on our own terms. They’re real, they’re raw, and they’re beautiful.

To honour the creative energy of motherhood this Mother’s Day, we connected with photographer and mother Georgina Egan, whose artistry has shaped the visual storytelling of Kerry Rocks over the past year. Attune your heart as she shares the transformative power of motherhood on her creativity, her priorities and her jewellery style.

MOTHER OF CREATION: Nurturing Life and Art

Motherhood illuminates the creative energy within us all. For Georgina Egan, these two forces are deeply entwined, each enriching and enhancing the other.

As a photographer, her lens has captured everything from still life to beauty and lifestyle with a mastery that has made her a sought-after name in the industry. But her journey as a mother has infused her work and life with richer levels of authenticity and connection.

Embracing motherhood’s tender pulse and creativity’s boundless potential, Georgina flows with the rhythm of life and art to capture the intimate moments that truly matter.

Describe motherhood in three words.

Rewarding, empowering, love-filled.

Motherhood is often called the ultimate act of creation, but as a photographer, your craft is creation too. How has becoming a mother shaped the way you see and express beauty through your work, particularly with brands like Kerry Rocks?

I always say shooting beautiful products is easy. The hard work has already been done, especially with Kerry’s jewellery!

When I photograph her pieces, I feel like I’m capturing the essence of their conception and delicate craftsmanship. They have a special energy, a story embedded within, and I love how deeply she connects with her gems. It’s such empowering jewellery for me to wear as being a mother takes a hell of a lot of energy.

But motherhood has changed the way I see beauty. Now, I notice the smallest things, like a new freckle on my son’s face or the softness of sleep lingering in the corner of an eye.

This heightened awareness of the subtle details that tell a story has naturally woven itself into my work. I call it my ‘macro mother lens’. It’s made me more instinctive in my creative storytelling. On set, my maternal instinct kicks in to create an inviting, playful space where talent feels safe and at ease.

I’m so lucky to consistently work with an incredible mix of creatives —it's like being in a VIP creative circle.

What is the most beautiful, untamed truth about being both a mother and a creative?

My transition to motherhood came quite easily. As a freelancer, I was already used to a flexible schedule, so it felt quite natural to just go with the flow once my boys arrived.

There’s something truly grounding about being fully present to the unpredictable rhythms of motherhood. It allows me to share creativity with my boys—teaching them about light, Mother Nature, and the wonders of the world around them.

How do you honour the pull between the creative self and the mothering self?

The freedom to flow between both is one of the silver linings of being a freelancer. I’m ok not working every day of every week because I know a day playing and connecting with my boys is a day well spent.

Jewellery carries energy—memory, connection, power. What’s one piece of jewellery you wear to feel anchored in mother energy?

There’s more than one actually.

My Personalised Rhombic Pendant set with my son’s birthstones (Peridot and Blue Topaz) from Kerry Rocks always sits close to my heart.

When I want to feel the energy of mothers past flow through me, I wear heirlooms handed down from my Grandmére and Great Grandmére.

I wear a fine silver necklace with a pendant made from delicate strands of tiny pearls, almost like a jellyfish crowned with diamonds, when I want to soften into my femininity.

When I need courage, I wear a silver necklace my Grandmére gifted me on my 16th birthday. It’s a powerful piece featuring an eagle with a sharp beak and talons emerging from a large silver dome.

For the times I want to feel mysterious (something you don’t get much as a mum), I love to wear my blue enamel serpent bracelet with diamond eyes and other precious jewels. It’s a piece that always sparks curiosity and questions —What’s the story behind it? Where did she get it? Was it a gift? And from whom? I adore the mystery.

What is the most valuable piece of wisdom you would offer mothers balancing creativity, career, and family life?

Nothing in motherhood is black and white. Choose to see it as a colourful rainbow, with every shade and tone imaginable, as unique as each mother’s journey is and will be.

We have to hold more than one truth at the same time. You can love your children more than anything, and still say it’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done. And that’s okay. You’re doing a great job.
